Project Goals, Scope and Timeline

What is the purpose of the ISOlutions OSD Project?

The purpose of the ISOlutions OSD Project is to adapt OSD for national standardization purposes.

The current objective of the project is to develop initial versions of OSD for national standardization needs with essential features and functionality that will enable ISO NSBs and IEC NCs to develop national homegrown standards and to adopt international and regional standards.

What is the ISOlutions OSD MVP?

MVP stands for Minimum Viable Product. The ISOlutions OSD MVP refers to the initial versions of national OSD solution that include core features and functions to support national standardization activities.

The purpose of the MVP is to explore, investigate and analyze what members need in an OSD solution for national purposes. Based on member evaluation and feedback, the ISOlutions OSD MVP will progressively evolve to include additional features identified as necessary by the community.

What is in scope for the ISOlutions OSD MVP?

The ISOlutions OSD MVP will allow members to develop national homegrown standards and to adopt international and regional standards. The MVP will be delivered in multiple stages as outlined below.

When will it be possible to adopt standards in the ISOlutions OSD MVP?

The second phase of the ISOlutions OSD MVP will support the national adoption of international standards, including both identical and modified adoptions. Planning for this phase is underway, with a tentative release targeted for Q2 2026.

Development on the third phase, which will support national adoptions of regional standards, has not yet begun. A tentative release date will be shared in 2026, following further analysis and initial planning.

Scope of the Homegrown MVP

What features are available in the ISOlutions OSD Homegrown MVP?

The diagram below outlines the features and functions available in the ISOlutions OSD homegrown (national standards) MVP.

What features or functions are out of scope of the Homegrown MVP?

The following are not enabled or supported for the current version of the OSD national homegrown MVP:

  • Directives Part 2 content quality rules are not enabled
  • Integration with other ISOlutions applications, including National Ballots is not supported
  • Integration with national standards databases for national referencing (i.e. national references must currently be added manually)
  • Project stages beyond the "Authoring" phase are not supported (i,e. automatic workflow management based on project stages is not available.)

Can I import my Word or PDF standard into ISOlutions OSD?

At this time, importing Word and XML content into the ISOlutions OSD MVP is not supported.

However, this feature is planned for inclusion in a future MVP release.

What delivery models are in scope of the pilot?

The ISOlutions OSD product used in the pilot is available only to pilot participants as a hosted (SaaS) solution.

The current hosted solution includes the OSD editor, the OSD backend, and limited integrations with select ISO applications (such as National projects, OSD Tools, and OSD Roles).

Who can join the ISOlutions OSD Pilot?

Currently, the pilot is limited to a subset of members in the ISOlutions OSD Task Force.

ISOlutions OSD Pilot Services and Resources

Is there a training environment available for pilot participants?

A training environment will be available in early 2026.

Providing Feedback During the Pilot

With whom should I share my feedback about the pilot or the ISOlutions OSD MVP?

Each NSB has a designated Feedback Coordinator who is responsible for collecting, consolidating, and sharing feedback on behalf of the NSB with the ISOlutions OSD project team.

If you are unsure who your national Feedback Coordinator is, please contact your national helpdesk.
